Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Taqi Uthmani Sahib حفظه الله once described one of his daily practices whilst teaching. He said,
“I make many decisions and many needs arise throughout the day. I am neither able to make Istikharah before each decision nor can I perform Nawaafil continuously. Sometimes because of being so preoccupied, I don’t even remember to do so. Therefore, for many years it has been my habit to perform two Rakaats Nafl Salaah with five intentions as multiple intentions can be made in Nawaafil.
These are the five intentions;
1) The first intention is that of Salaatut Tawbah (Repentance).
2) The second intention is that of Salaatul Haajah (Expressing one’s needs).
3) The third intention is that of Salaat-us-Shukr (Expressing gratitude).
4) The fourth intention is that of Salaatul Isti’aana (Nafl for seeking help from Allah Ta’ala- Seek help through patience and Salaah (Quran)).
5) The fifth intention is Salaatul Istikhaarah (For seeking goodness).”
Mufti Sahib حفظه الله continues;
“With the blessings of these five intentions, I find ease and comfort in all tasks of the day.”
“The sins of the entire day are forgiven due to Salaatut Tawbah; the needs of the day are fulfilled through Salaatul Haajah; with Salaatus Shukr, these bounties continue to increase; with Salaatul Isti’aana, I get the special help of Allah Ta’ala in all the activities throughout the day and through Salaatul Istikhharah, I do not experience any difficulty in making any decision – rather it becomes clear to me like two plus two equals four.”
Hazrat Mufti Sahib حفظه الله also said;
“This act of performing two rakaats Nafl with these five intentions is a way to turn to Allah Ta‘ala throughout the day.”
Indeed, Hazrat Mufti Sahib حفظه الله has explained an extremely beneficial practice. Ever since learning of this, he has maintained the routine of these Nawaafil and enjoy the immense benefits to this day.
All friends are requested to make the performance of these two rakaats Nafl with the five intentions their daily practice.
