Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه had mentioned, “I participated in the Battle of Badr at a time when I had only one strand of hair on my face. Later on, Allah Ta‘ala blessed me with a beard.

Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه had participated in the Battles of Badr and Uhud, and he was among the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم who remained firm with Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم during the Battle of Uhud when (the enemy attacked from the rear and killed many Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم, due to which there was much confusion and) many Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم turned away from the battlefield.
Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه also participated in the Battle of Khandaq (the Trench), the expedition of Hudaibiyah, the Battle of Khaibar and the Conquest of Makkah Mukarramah. During the Conquest of Makkah Mukarramah, Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه was carrying one of the three flags of the Muhaajireen. He had participated in all the expeditions of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. From among the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم, he was among those Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم who were well-skilled in archery.

Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas‘ood رضي الله عنه mentioned, “I saw Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه during the Battle of Badr. He was fighting like a horseman among those on foot.”

Hazrat Sa’eed bin Musayyib رحمه الله says that he heard Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه mention that Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم had made special du‘aa for him (during the Battle of Uhud) saying, “May my father and mother be sacrificed for you!”

Hazrat Sa’d رضي الله عنه narrates, “During the Battle of Uhud, I saw two men wearing white clothing, one on the right and one on the left of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. They were defending Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم from the kuffaar most valiantly and fiercely. I never saw them before that nor did I see them after that (in the narration of Muslim Shareef, it is mentioned that these were the angels, Hazrat Jibraa’eel and Hazrat Meekaa’eel عليهما السلام.”

REFLECTIONS
These were the chants of the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم whilst digging the trench:
نحن الذين بايعوا محمدا
على الجهاد ما بقينا أبدا
“We are those who pledged on the hands of Muhammad (and we have sold our lives to Allah for Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم) that we would continue fighting in Jihaad as long as we have life within us.”

What an electric atmosphere of Imaan and desire to sacrifice one’s life for the Deen of Allah Ta‘ala. May Allah Ta’ala revive the spirit of Jihaad in the Ummah once again. Ameen
