On the occasion of the Battle of Ahzaab, also known as the Battle of Khandaq (the Battle of the Trench), the Muslims received the information that the Banu Quraizah had broken their pledge of allegiance to Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and had joined the enemy. In order to verify the information, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم asked the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم, “Who will bring me information of these people (the Banu Quraizah)?” Hazrat Zubair رضي الله عنه instantly responded by volunteering to go as a spy and bring information of the Banu Quraizah to Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.
After some time, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم again asked, “Who will bring me information of these people (the Banu Quraizah)?” Once again, Hazrat Zubair رضي الله عنه volunteered to go. Finally, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم asked for a third time, “Who will bring me information of these people (the Banu Quraizah)?” On this occasion as well, Hazrat Zubair رضي الله عنه volunteered to go. It was on this occasion that Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم was overjoyed and pleased with Hazrat Zubair رضي الله عنه and mentioned, “Indeed every Nabi had a special helper, and my special helper is Hazrat Zubair bin ‘Awwaam رضي الله عنه.”

REFLECTIONS
The Ulama explain that the Sahaabah رضي الله تعالى عنهم enjoyed the special help of Allah Ta‘ala because of giving preference to the Aakhirah over the world and always maintaining an Islamic identity; adherence to Deen and the Sunnah of Rasulullah صلی الله عليه وسلم.
It is sad that today we have become selfish, always looking for our own worldly gain instead of worrying about helping others for our success in the Akhirah.
Let’s revive the Sunnah of helping others. Rasulullah صلی الله عليه وسلم mentioned,
والله في عون العبد ما كان العبد في عون أخيه
And Allah Ta’ala continues to help the slave as long as he continues to assist his brother. (Muslim #2699)
